With a story written by renowned Warhammer author Dan Abnett and the horde-based gameplay that Vermintide players will be used to, fans were immediately excited for Darktide. RELATED: Games Workshop Wants More AAA Warhammer Video Games Both the Vermintide series and developer Fatshark were met with praise from critics and fans of Warhammer, with many citing Vermintide 2's consistent updates as a reason to pick up the game even four years after it released. Skaven, alongside Chaos worshippers and huge bosses, the games made for a great amount of fun for four players. Allowing players to cut down hordes of rat-men, a.k.a. Warhammer: Vermintide and Vermintide 2 proved to be incredibly successful co-op action games set in the fantasy portion of the famous Warhammer universe. Revealed in July of 2020, Darktide places players in a hive city that has been overtaken by Warhammer's Chaos god Nurgle. Darktide, the next game in Fatshark's lineup, sought to do just that. The most logical option seemed for the games to transition from the grimdark fantasy setting of Warhammer to its equally dark sci-fi setting, Warhammer 40,000. Darktide feels less linear than the previous takes, the story takes place between cutscenes of missions.With it being so long since Vermintide 2 initially dropped and the Warhammer Fantasy setting having officially reached its end, many were wondering where Fatshark would go next. If you were afraid the jump from fantasy to 40K would ruin the experience, fear not, it’s even better. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a true successor to Fatshark’s previous Vermintide series. Warhammer 40k Darktide is an excellent sci-fi co-op FPS experience that will likely be enjoyed for years to come. Darktide is a Primarch amongst Warhammer games, and it serves the corpse emperor admirably. The best way to do so seems to be simply saying that it is spot-on enough to surely please any fan of Warhammer or horde shooters. It is hard to translate just how satisfying it feels to tear through a horde of heathens in Darktide as its thunderous soundtrack plays to words. You also get to customize your character and upgrade your gear.
